Aaron Cole made history recently at the 2019 Dove Awards. The Gotee Records artist became the first person in Christian hip-hop to win New Artist of the Year.
However, this feels problematic for three reasons. One, Cole is so much more than just a hip-hop artist, he’s an incredible singer. So the amendment here is that he’s within the CHH sphere but not limited to rapping. The second point, despite his age, Cole is no rookie. He’s been killing it in music for some time already. He released his official debut album Not by Chance while signed to a label, and this ultimately propelled him to a victory. You’d be hard-pressed to find a better album debut than this because of its diversity.
